Only You

Walk the way your mother taught you to
Put your spurs on when you go outside
Trust in god but don't forget you lied
At your first confession

Beware the hides that hang upon your wall
Take the time to catch up on the news
Catch the wind, don't wait for him to call
This was your first concession

you alone in your parade
you alone in your parade
you alone in your parade
only you

Curse the bone that grows within your hand
He'll pluck your heart and pop it in his mouth
Don't watch for signs you'll never understand
This is his obsession

Black and blue he paints your canvas red
Then takes you out and buys you something nice
Afterwards he'll tie you down in bed
This is his oppression

you alone in your parade
you alone in your parade
you alone in your parade
only you

Wreckless

Imagine scenes where you were absent
fallen from the dreams of those you love
Far beyond all points of logic
drifting high above the laws of love
Where rhymes are served on empty platters
and time's the only truth, that tragic bore

Captured in a moment cluttered
with images of adolescence
Nonetheless he feels the ancient clutch
of velvet hands upon his
Without a clue, a cause or penchant
he wanders off forever wreckless

Are you sleeping?

Come close enough you'll see his eyes
fill with ruthless emotion
Still you strain to lead a life
subservient in your devotion
His mind is cluttered with abstractions
childhood stains and other lesser notions

Are you sleeping?

I'll design you a mountain
you can't tumble down
they may save you now
but they won't always be around

Imagine scenes where you were absent
fallen from the dreams of those you love
Far beyond all points of logic
drifting high above the laws of love
Where rhymes are served on empty platters
and time's the only truth, that tragic bore

Are you sleeping?

Ruins

how do you know
if it's thick or thin
breaks at the end
dissolves in your hands
before you let go?

don't steal me
don't steal me with that gray stare
I've been there before
and the walls were bare
I've got trophies
I'll show you my little angel wings
defend me, but don't let me lose these things

I'm falling
and I fear I'll meet you going up again
falling too fast, the crazy sky bends

oh did you hear me?
did you hear me call?
was it like a chorus of Euripides
leaking through a cloud?
well I saw you down there
I saw you so small
but you were gone somewhere
before I hit the ground

now I'm falling
and I fear I'll meet you going up again
slow me down before this crazy sky bends

so I wait in the trees
wait for someone to breathe
wait for someone like me to fall first
and when they fall
they fall in two or three pieces

Badou

She burned in Badou!
She burned in Badou!
She burned in Badou!

She woke today
in a crowd in Badou
Alive, unafraid
as she wandered the rue.
When she was a girl
she had known such a world as Badou.

Fields were ablaze
with poppies in bloom.
She lingered to play
with the children at noon.
They spoke of the days
and the curious ways of Badou.
She wondered if they
would truly be saved in Badou.

She cried for the Queen of Angels.
She cried for the little Guy.
She cried for the motherless children
She cried for the hurt inside.

She burned in Badou!

When she flew away
she was long overdue.
She hoped to bring
something back she could use.
But it was clear from the start
what was rare was the heart of Badou.
The moon and the stars
weren't so far from the town of Badou.

How does if feel to be
one of the beautiful people
or haven't you heard, now.

She burned in Badou!

Battle-Ax

I loathed your scars
you loved your battles
do you know how long these rhinestones will shine?
your heroes in chains
watch them fall
they march before you
they shake, they stall, they each go down alone

now you hold, you hold the battle-ax
it gives you nothing
then takes it away
leaves you stranded in your faithful, slow decay

mourn for the sleep that staggers
beneath your dreaming
your aging bed looks nothing like your soul
one more eye-straining crazy man
released to claim his senses
he holds his fragile shadow towards the sky

now you hold, you hold the battle-ax
it gives you nothing
then takes it away
leaves you stranded in your faithful, slow decay
we're bound to catch this ball
but you're still trying to save your conscience
after all

suffer me, gracefully
though your lucky days are over
echo them back this way for a while
It won't be long
your gods are gone through your tears in silence
flatter your angels
they might wait up for you

I loathed your scars
you loved your battles
do you know how long these rhinestones will shine?

Dog-Eared (But Forgotten)

He came to me
in a dream
so dark
that my heart was a bob on a mighty river

He sang out from
the mountains above
he said, "don't be deceived by the ones you love."

I'm dog-eared but forgotten
twist my words and serve them up
on the backs of the broken-hearted
when they rise they'll throw you off.

I thought to cry
but I found
my eyes
had been lost with my heart to the mighty river.

I stood alone
by the thundering sea
he said, "It don't mean a thing if you can't be free."

I'm dog-eared but forgotten
twist my words and serve them up
on the backs of the broken-hearted
when they rise they'll throw you off.

He came to me
in a dream
so dark.

Undertow

here, where waves wipe over you
you make strange shapes with your hands
I saw your ambition bleeding to Asia through the sand
oh, like those messengers before you
you've waited too long to claim your tongue
so before you drop into your skin and drown
will you remember how your father claimed his son?

though the tides wash you dry
stay by me to the end, down the undertow
though the darkness hides your horizon lines
believe the answers you already know

your eyes speak of changes
our words don't describe
and in your arms I feel a certain
wanting, lacking

though the tides wash you dry
stay by me to the end, down the undertow
though the darkness hides your horizon lines
believe the answers you already know

Gone

me and you
gone
me and you
you and I

I wanna make you
wanna make me
wanna make you
wanna cry

(I see how you
deceive me now)

I wanna make you
wanna make me
wanna make you
wanna die

me and you
slide
me and you
stay inside

you made your way around the world
you made your way around me
leave me standing alone
leave me be

me and you
choose
me and you

me and you
you and I

Run Through With Daylight

Run through with daylight
close my eyes;
you said,
    You were one
    to stand while others run
to take their place in line
I've been wasting my time.

Run through with daylight
spare my ears:
You said,
    we would write
    a brand new history
with a road that runs right up the ass
of those that stand in our way.
and you said,
    We would fly
our flag down the throat of time
and laugh as she drank us down.
Imagine my surprise!

Cause you were my rise
my heartbeat, my stone
Cause you were unlike me
unlikely, unknown.

Run through with daylight
break my heart;
you said,
    We would dance
    spit on mother's grave
    lock up those sacred myths
    and toss away the key.

Run through with daylight
steal my car:
    Take me to the woods
    tie me to a tree
sail me down some slimy river
but don't toss away my dreams
cause you said:
    You were one
    to stand while others come
and take their place in line.
I've been wasting my time!

Cause you were my rise
my heartbeat, my stone
Cause you were unlike me
unlikely, unknown.

Casey

Casey, once told me he loved me.
Maybe, he still does but something has changed.
His mind has changed!

Casey, says watch my lips their moving,
take me for what I say not what I'm doing.
But times have changed
He's not the same.

But I will dream of you tonight
Your face stands out against the lights
and I will search the skies for you
behind your words.

Casey, left me Saturday morning,
staring at the phone
no use in calling
times have changed
he's not the same.

Casey, now what he's left behind's uncovered
mostly it doesn't hurt but I have suffered,
I have changed,
I'm not the same.

But I will dream of you tonight
Your face stands out against the lights
and I will search the skies for you
behind your words.

Casey, once told me he loved me
Maybe, he still does but something has changed
He's not the same.

Casey, I will dream of you tonight!
I will dream of you tonight!
I will dream of you tonight!
