Racer Records Captain's Log - Sep 10 '95

Lots of people have asked about the day-to-day workings of an indie label, so I thought I'd start giving a little running commentary of just exactly what it is I do around here.

Captain's Logs are written sporadically and tend to get skipped if I'm insanely busy or am doing a lot of computer consulting (and hence very little Racer work).

I'll try to post this as consistently as possible until I forget to do it, I run out of time, or I find out people think it's incredibly pretentious and boring.

Comments and questions are heartily encouraged.

Did LOTS of planning for the radio promotion campaign for Utechma; got the last sampler mailing to the post office; did a bunch of consulting work ...

* finished assembling the cassette sampler bulk mailing for tomorrow

* did lots of work on artwork for the upcoming Potato Eaters CD

Captain's Log, Tuesday, September 5, 1995

* worked on the radio promotion plan for Utechma, deciding on stations to send stuff to and determining which stations most needed me to call to confirm information before sending the CD

* wrote letters to software companies, asking permission to donate my old copies of software to a local non-profit

* Answered lots of e-mail

* cleaned up my telephone message log, archiving old messages I don't need any longer

Phone Calls:

* spoke briefly with an A&R rep at a major label who had referred an artist to me.

* spoke with KFOG's music director to schedule a time to have lunch tomorrow

* spoke with three consulting clients
